About Me

I was born and raised in Sleepy Hollow, New York. I enjoyed many activities growing up including riding bicycles, swimming, fishing, baseball, football and weightlifting to name a few. I graduated from Sleepy Hollow High School , but was not ready for college, so I applied and was hired at my first job at Union Carbide Corp. I started in the mail room and in a few months, was promoted to computer operator, receiving communications from satellite sales offices around the world. I became very interested in computer technology (1976) and decided after two years of working there to go to college at SUNY Alfred for Computer Science.

After college I started my employment journey as Assistant Manager of a warehouse/workshop at a company called Almor where we built, delivered, stored and installed supermarket check-out systems. I recieved a lot of work experience there. There was limited growth in my job full-time job, so I applied for and received a job at Mearl Corporation. It was a plant that produced pigments for cosmetics and paints. The first two years I had many jobs including running a chemical reactor, running a wastewater treatment facility, and then transferred to working in the warehouse to get out of the chemical environment. After a year in the warehouse, I was promoted to Warehouse Manager and spent nine years managing the packaging of pigment products, receiving raw materials for the plant and shipping final product to customers both domestically and internationally.

After being laid-off during company downsizing, and being unable to find a job, I decided to return to a career in the computer field. I spent six months attending school for Graphic Design and started an internship at a local newspaper called Trader Publications that paid $0.00. As I finished my schooling, Trader Publications hired me as a Prepress operator creating advertisements and doing layout and paste-up. I enjoyed working there for two years, then moved on to a job at IKON office solutions. I was hired as a Prepress Operator and then Lead Prepress Operator. I spent five years working there gaining knowledge and experience in the field of prepress/graphic design.

After that, I worked at the Synapse Group (a fully owned division of Time Inc.) as Lead Prepress Operator, then was promoted to Creative Production Manager. During my time at Synapse, I became interested in Sports Photography and spent many hours studying and shooting different games and events. I started my own business called Kenneth Booth Photography and am still running the business as a part-time venture.

I juggled many "second" jobs over the years including Baseball Umpire, Bouncer, Mover and Crisis Intervention Officer at a residential treatment center for children.

I am and currently working as a Freelance Photojournalist.

So that's my short story. Thanks for your interest,

Sincerely,
Kenneth Booth
